The Blinding Light by Renae Kaye (4.5 Stars)

An enjoyable romance with interesting characters that had me flying through the pages.

Jake Manning was extremely engaging and adorable. In addition to being generous with both his time and money, he was also very entertaining. Jake’s dialogue was brilliant and humorous whether he was talking to somebody or to himself. Patrick’s abrasive personality was quickly adjusted by Jake. The development of their relationship felt realistic, and it became very obvious that these two were meant for each other. My favorite interactions were the notes that they left for each other.

My only issue with the story was the ending. The last few chapters took us away from the relationship between Jake and Patrick and put us in the middle of some family drama and decisions which I didn’t enjoy.

Grey Hayes loves his job as a fireman, and he considers most of the men at his station to be his family. Mica Cruz is transferring to the station and hoping for a fresh start. As soon as these two meet, they are immediately attracted to each other. But Grey is straight, or at least he thinks he is. As Grey and Mica explore their attraction, and Grey comes to grips with the fact that he’s gay, they must also deal with the threats against Mica.

I enjoyed the beginning of this story, especially several of the sex scenes with Mica’s dirty talk. Mica and Grey are both really nice guys, and they love their jobs. It was great to see them spend time with the other firefighters and get an idea of life in the firehouse. I loved the camaraderie between all of the guys and thought it gave some warmth to the story. There wasn’t really a lot of relationship building or heavy conversations taking place. It seemed like every time there was an opportunity to have a discussion, sex took precedence. The suspense angle allowed for them to spend more time together and move their relationship forward even faster.

If you’re looking for a heavy erotic romance with sexy firemen and a little suspense, this should make for a fun romp.

The Douglas Fir by Anyta Sunday (4 Stars)

Jase and Dave both have a crush on Noah. Unfortunately for both of them, Noah is straight. It doesn’t stop them from hoping for something different. Jase tells us the story, and his interesting voice is what made reading it so enjoyable. It was fun watching him trying not to like Dave, since he’s the competition, but failing because Dave is such a wonderful guy. It was not, by any means, a standard romance.

A sweet and sexy story about an accountant and an electrician who meet and fall in love. The blurb suggests this is an “opposites attract” story, but the characters didn’t come across as opposites to me. Instead, they were both very nice, hard-working guys who played well together through plenty of sexy scenes and just spending hanging out. The sex scenes were very sensual and well-written. I loved Brent and his voice carried the story, but I wish Logan’s character was developed a bit more.
