Override (The Underground Club #1) by SJD Peterson (4 Stars)

Will insecurities keep Donavan from finding true love and exploring his submissive side?

Donavan Gregory is tall, built, and struggling to find somebody who can understand his need to submit. Seth Manning is smart, confident, and looking for somebody willing to submit to him in the bedroom. The attraction between these two was instant, but building a lasting relationship will take a bit longer.

Donavan is self-conscious about his lack of money and a college degree. He’s concerned that Seth’s physical attraction to him will eventually wear off. He’s also never been in a relationship before, and he’s worried about how quickly he’s falling for Seth. However, Seth is a smart doctor, and he realizes how amazing Donavan is and has no intention of letting him go. Although Seth comes from money, he worked very hard to become a doctor. He appreciates that Donavan works hard regardless of the type of work Donavan does. He just has to convince Donavan of this fact.

Donavan’s insecurity added a little bit of anxiety to the relationship, but it never created any serious drama. The majority of the time, we were treated to some erotic fun at the club and in Seth’s home and playroom. The submission was limited to their sexual interactions, and included bondage, spanking, and flogging. It was sweet to watch these two enjoy each other’s company on dates and with family and friends. Donavan’s friend, Cain, played a fun role in the story, and I hope we get a chance to see him find happiness.

A sweet story about two people finding a connection without regard to physical attributes or financial status.

Dom of Ages (Collars and Cuffs #7) by K.C. Wells and Parker Williams (2 Stars)

Sexy times continue at Collars and Cuffs.

Jarod lost his master of 20 years in a horrible accident, and years later he’s still struggling to move on with his own life. He needs to find a new master, but it appears most doms don’t want a 50-year old sub. Eli is 30, and he’s finally ready to settle down. When he first sets eyes on Jarod, he’s instantly drawn to him. Age doesn’t make any difference to him when Jarod is so clearly the sub Eli’s been looking for.

The two men hit it off almost instantly. The fact that Eli isn’t a great dom doesn’t seem to bother Jarod. Even though Eli initially treats Jarod as a housekeeper, somehow Jarod isn’t bothered by his actions. Fortunately, Eli’s friends help him to see the error in his ways and give him some pointers to improve his behavior. The age wasn’t really a factor since neither of them were bothered by it. Jarod’s biggest concern was that Eli would eventually have to deal with losing Jarod, even if they both just died of old age.  Their sexual interactions were very touching, and they enjoyed trying different things including mummification and sounding (inserting probes in the urethra).

My biggest issue with the story was Jarod’s lack of personality. He came across as too simple-minded, and I failed to understand why either of these men would truly want to be with each other. I really struggled to connect with the characters as a couple. It was nice to see some of the other characters from the first 6 books.

A steamy entry in the Collars & Cuffs series.

Rough Road (Lake Lovelace #2) by Vanessa North (5 Stars)

A sweet romance mixed in with some serious sadistic play and extremely hot sex scenes made for a smooth ride.

Eddie Russell is wealthy but lonely. Over 40, he calls himself an old queen who is very comfortable with himself. He’s a masochist but definitely not a sub. Wish Carver is very mature for only being 24. He’s a major sadist but not a Dom. In the bedroom, these two are definitely made for each other. Eddie enjoys caning, biting, spanking, and bondage. Wish is more than willing to meet Eddie’s desires. Outside of the bedroom, it was even better.

I really enjoyed how well these two connected and the amount of time we spent watching them develop their relationship. They were both very considerate of each other, and they seemed to bring out the best in each other. While age was a discussion point, it didn’t overwhelm the plot. Since neither of them had really been in a serious relationship before, they had to learn how to deal with conflict. The biggest problem came from Eddie trying too hard to take care of his old friend, Ben, and putting Ben before Wish one too many times. I liked the way the author had them work through several issues making their HEA realistic. The addition of family and friends also added a nice touch to the story.

Although this is the second book in the series, it stands on its own. However, I really enjoyed the first story and highly recommend it.

Stretching the Rules by B.A. Tortuga (4 Stars)

Pack politics has kept them apart so far, but when their lives are in danger, love will come out ahead.

Jonah loves belonging to the pack. It’s a huge part of who he is. He is the beta for his pack and his pack counts on him. Falling in love with a cougar and coyote means he can’t live with them, but it doesn’t mean he can’t love them. Olivia and Hank were together, but with Jonah in the mix, they finally feel like they are a complete package. Olivia is a stripper who knows how to drive the guys crazy, but she’s also very strong and likes to be in control. Hank is the perfect sub who likes to make sure everybody is taken care of. I was glad we got perspectives from each of them.

As the three of them build their lives together outside of the pack, Jonah must continue to keep it a secret. However, one horrible night changes everything when a roving pack of hybrids tries to kill Olivia and Hank. Jonah has no choice but to request help from the pack.

Although this was a short story, it certainly wasn’t lacking in the steam department. These three people love each other with all of their hearts and certainly enjoy playing in the bedroom. The majority of the beginning of the story was a series of non-stop sex scenes, which was enjoyable, but fortunately, the story itself picks up toward the second half. A steamy paranormal story of love and devotion with a bit of action.
