Reviewing these together made more sense, since I didn’t get the feeling of completion I wanted after the first one. The first story was sweet watching Danny help Philip appreciate life again. They spent a bit of time together while Philip helped Danny recover from an injury. Unfortunately, the second story was focused on family drama, and we rarely saw Danny and Philip together. I also didn’t understand how they could be together for four years and still seem to know so little about each other. It didn’t quite work as a romance for me, but I enjoyed the story and the characters. I also got the happy ending I was hoping for.
Moving in Rhythm by Dev Bentham (5 Stars)
I found the story fascinating and the character development completely absorbing. I can’t imagine how hard it would be living with such debilitating shyness, although the author did an excellent job putting me in Mark’s head. Mark stepped up to the plate when needed by his family no matter how hard it was for him. It was nice to see him finally take a small step forward for himself when he reached out to Seth. Seth was so understanding and went out of his way to try to make Mark more comfortable. These two made a wonderful couple, and I would love to see more of them. Fortunately, the author just posted a lovely snippet about them for Valentine’s Day here.
Cinder: A CinderFella Tale by Marie Sexton (4.5 Stars)
A sweet story based on the concept of Cinderella, but I enjoyed it so much more. I liked how Eldon and the Prince met before the ball and became very good friends. Eldon was realistic and willing to just spend the rest of his life being close to the Prince, but, fortunately, the Prince wanted so much more.
Dead Man and the Lustful Spirit by Lou Harper (3 Stars)
A free story set in the same world as Dead Man and the Restless Spirits, this is about one of the cases that Denton and Bran work on together. It focused mostly on the case instead of on the characters or their relationship. Unfortunately, I didn’t find the case interesting enough to hold my attention.
