The Curtis Reincarnation by Zathyn Priest (5 Stars)

A captivating love story between a world famous rock-star and his newest and biggest fan!

Tyler Curtis, aka Alec, is arguably the most talented musician in the world, but his bad-boy persona creates a lot of problems. Fortunately, it’s all an act, as Jordan Braxton quickly discovers. Their chance meeting quickly leads to a strong emotional connection and a lovely relationship. Together they will face an evil manager, rotten mother, Alec’s epilepsy and serious emotional challenges.

The story is mostly told from the POV of Alec and Jordan, which allowed us to get to know both characters extremely well. Periodically, we would hear from somebody else and get a different perspective.

Alec is a very kind person down to the bottom of his soul. Although the emotional abuse he suffered left him in a very insecure state, once Jordan came into his life, he quickly began to stand up for himself. Jordan was a strong person who was happy on his own until the moment he met and fell for Alec. Their love for each other was beautiful and never in doubt. Their heartfelt dialog, including poems and songs, was very emotional and beautiful.

All of the angst of the story was outside of the relationship. The limited sex scenes were mostly just sensual. There were several other characters who contributed nicely to the story including Jordan’s sister and one of the tabloid writers. The story takes place over the course of a year and included a perfect epilogue. This was an absolutely amazing and riveting story which just went on my favorites shelf!

The Half of Us (Family #4) by Cardeno C. (5 Stars)

A beautiful love story between two people who slowly came together to become a perfect pair.

Jase was such an interesting and well-developed character. Although he’s a brilliant surgeon, he’s jaded with life and a bit of a temperamental loner. He knows he was a horrible husband after cheating on his wife for so long. After the divorce, he’s not ready to settle down with anybody else, and instead he spends his time with one-night stands. Everything changes when he meets Abe. Abe is an absolute sweetheart with a pleasant disposition. He teaches math, has plenty of friends, and really knows how to relate to other people. Jase is completely smitten with Abe and doesn’t even begin to know how to handle all of these feelings. These two were perfect together. The sex in this story was extremely steamy with a touch of rough play. The time they spent getting to know one another was fascinating. My favorite part of the story was watching Abe slowly become a permanent part of Jase’s life without Jase even realizing it.

I also loved how Jase spends time with his ex-wife as a friend and gets advice from her and other family and friends about starting a relationship with Abe. The family drama with Jase’s son at the end was played out extremely well with no simple answers.

Another amazing and engaging story by Cardeno C. Although they don’t have to be read in order, I have read and loved every single story in this series and recommend all of them.

Assimilation, Love, and Other Human Oddities (Claimings #2) by Lyn Gala (5 Stars)

An excellent continuation of Liam and Ondry’s story, the author took us deeper into their special relationship.

Ondry and Liam are enjoying their new lives together, but that’s about to be interrupted by the humans. In the middle of a war, the humans need metals to fix their damaged ships. They have come back hoping that Liam can assist them with the trading. Since humans aren’t logical people, the question is whether or not they can be trusted.

I absolutely loved the first book in this series, and I wondered where the author would take us with an already established couple. She definitely succeeded in her choice. We got both points of view, a better understanding of their connection to each other, and an idea of how they spend their days. It was nice to see how much Ondry and Liam utterly adored each other and tried to keep each other happy. We learned more about their jobs as traders. The play on words continued in this story, and it was interesting to watch how a translation was dissected. The excitement and tension for the story came from the officer that was sent to trade with Liam and Ondry. Her motivations weren’t clear, which kept us on the edge waiting to see how it would all play out.

This is the second book in the series, and it definitely needs to be read after the first amazing story, Claimings, Tails, and Other Alien Artifacts.

I really enjoyed this story about romance and the nuances of the spoken word.

Slam! by J.L. Merrow (5 Stars)

Witty sarcasm coupled with a sweet romance made for a story that’s hard to put down!

Jude Biggerstaff is a recent college graduate who hasn’t quite started to work on his career. After a bad breakup, he decides to live with his Mom, work on his violin and poetry skills, and hang out with his best friend Keisha. After David saves Jude from being mugged, they begin a lovely romance. Since David isn’t completely out, and Jude’s Mom is dating David’s coworker, there are some interesting antics taking place.

Phenomenal character development with Jude, his best friend Keisha, his Mom, and David. The story is told from Jude’s POV, and he is one of the most sarcastic and funny characters I have ever read with Keisha as a close second. Their relationship was truly the key to this wonderful story. I could have read about them all day and never got tired of their conversations.

Jude’s love interest, David, was a nice guy who was still partially hiding the fact he was gay from the rest of the world. They had a very sweet relationship developing with David trying to get to know Jude through several dates before engaging in a physical relationship. Considering Jude could turn almost any comment into a sexual innuendo, this wasn’t easy for David. For the bulk of the story, you’re basically following Jude around in his daily life, including some fun poetry slams, looking at things from his very interesting perspective. I’m really looking forward to reading this book again!
